(PSI Technics, Urmitz, Germany, February 1, 2021)
Different forms of life profit from each other in an ecosystem. They create habitats, food and protection for each other – they strengthen each other. This is what we must envision when we talk about business ecosystems. The fruitful coexistence of different companies – we have seen this primarily in the global automobile industry. But medium-sized enterprises can also benefit from business ecosystems. When it comes to research, development and marketing the latest technologies, close cooperation among smaller companies can help them successfully rise to the challenges that even multinational corporations face. What's needed? First of all, someone to take the lead.
The pioneering role has been taken
PSI Technics of Urmitz on the Rhine river develops automation and digitization solutions and has recently focused increasingly on automated image processing to aid in fault detection, maintenance and inspection. This is a broad area that can be applied in numerous industries. From food inspection to the inspection of railway trains, PSI Technics has established deep competencies and, among other things, has developed scalable and expandable cutting-edge solutions using artificial intelligence, digital twin and software engineering. Meeting the tremendous global demand, further developing these technologies and building interfaces for adjacent fields are significant tasks that can offer work and revenue for other business entities too. For this reason, CEO Karl-Heinz Förderer is proactively engaged in establishing a business ecosystem. "We aim to establish a competence center for the purposes of implementing groundbreaking applications in the field of the automation and digitization of technical processes in enterprises. We aim to be a market leader in this field within the next five years", Förderer said of his vision.
Cooperating partners sought
He took the first steps long ago. In addition to establishing the competence center within its own company, PSI Technics is currently constructing a new company building with a lot of room for development and cooperation: a competence center where new ideas and technologies can be developed. In doing this, Förderer aims to take his customers' technical business processes to a new level and connect them closely with the seal of "German engineering" quality. To do so, he is looking for partner companies from, for example, the fields of robotics, data mining, cloud computing and Internet of Things to develop common solutions. In addition, existing cooperations with hardware manufacturers that produce camera, lighting and server systems and facilitate SAP integration or building construction need to be further developed and expanded.
For further developments, the company greatly values collaboration with research institutions and universities. To pursue sustainable development and to attract young talent with high potential, PSI Technics has already entered into talks with the University of Koblenz, the Technical College of Koblenz, the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, the 4.0 Competence Center for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Kaiserslautern and has already established initial cooperations. The University of Koblenz supports efforts to create a 5G infrastructure.
From the region, for the region
The ecosystem is already growing. "PSI Technics plays the leading role in this network – and orchestrates the vision that all of the partners in the system are ultimately linked together," Prof. Dr. Gordon Müller-Seitz explains the role of the agile medium-sized company from Rhineland-Palatinate. The foundation is already built: Openness, willingness to learn, a growing culture of innovation and the willingness to invest. Förderer has already contacted local authorities and governmental departments too: "Rhineland-Palatinate is the perfect location for this effort. PSI Technics is firmly rooted here and we would be delighted if the region were to profit from the business ecosystem."
Prof. Dr. Gordon Müller-Seitz and Karl-Heinz Förderer describe in detail in a White Paper the creation and significance of such a business ecosystem using PSI Technics as a case study. It is available for download https://www.psi-technics.com/EN/Whitepapers.php.

The ARATEC's FLP6000AOC software reduces mast oscillations – even of highly dynamic stacker cranes – to a minimum. The test setup shows that the ARATEC Positioning Solution System with enabled FLP6000AOC compensates for mast oscillations in near-real time, even when the oscillations are caused by external disturbances.
